How We Clean the System

Cleaning an underdeck system isn’t just about appearance—it’s about maintaining proper drainage and long-term performance.

We use safe, controlled cleaning methods to protect the finish while removing buildup from panels and drainage areas.

Panels are cleaned using non-abrasive solutions and soft tools to avoid damaging the surface. The goal is to restore a clean, consistent appearance without affecting the coating.

Gutters and drainage pathways are flushed to ensure water can move freely through the system. Any buildup is cleared to prevent blockage or standing water.

Every service includes a visual inspection of the system to identify areas that may need attention over time.

Homeowner Cleaning Guidelines

For light cleaning between service visits, simple tools and safe methods are recommended.

  • Use a glass-safe cleaner such as Windex or similar
  • Clean panels with a soft cloth or Swiffer-style mop
  • Avoid abrasive pads or harsh scrubbing
ImportantDo not hose down the ceiling and allow it to drip dry. Hard water deposits can leave residue on the finish that is difficult to remove over time.

How to Flush the Gutter System

In many cases, homeowners can flush the gutter system themselves with minimal tools.

Basic tools required:

  • Ladder
  • Garden hose
  • Running water

Start at the highest point of the system. For layouts with a single downspout, this will be the highest end of the run.

Gently press the panel upward enough to position the hose into the gutter channel. Flush the system in one direction, then repeat in the opposite direction to ensure proper flow.

For larger systems with split pitch layouts, the high point is typically centered. In these cases, flushing should be done in both directions from the center, then repeated on each side of the system.

This approach ensures water is moving from the highest points through the system as intended.

Environmental Factors & Maintenance Frequency

Surrounding conditions play a major role in how often a system needs to be cleaned.

Homes with minimal overhead exposure may only require occasional maintenance. Systems located beneath trees—especially pine trees—will require more frequent attention.

Pine needles are one of the most common causes of buildup. When allowed to accumulate, they can create a damming effect that restricts water flow and traps moisture.

For these environments, we recommend an annual maintenance program to ensure the system continues to perform properly.

When a Full Clean-Out Is Needed

In cases where debris has been allowed to build up over time, a more involved cleaning may be required.

This can include removing panels to fully access and clear the system, ensuring that all drainage pathways are restored.

What to Avoid

To protect both the system and the warranty:

  • Do not use pressure washers
  • Do not use harsh or corrosive cleaning chemicals
  • Do not allow hard water to air dry on the surface

Unsafe cleaning methods or chemical use can damage the finish and void the warranty.

Common Questions

How often should the system be cleaned?

It depends on site conditions. Homes with tree coverage may require annual cleaning, while others may need less frequent service.

Can I clean the system myself?

Yes. Light cleaning and basic flushing can be done by homeowners using the recommended methods.

Do you service systems installed by other companies?

We can evaluate existing systems and provide guidance on maintenance, repair, or replacement. Service is offered on a case-by-case basis depending on the system design and condition.

What happens if debris is left too long?

Buildup can restrict water flow and lead to standing water or overflow. Regular maintenance helps prevent this.
