Castle Rock pergolas by Undercover
A pergola is a freestanding outdoor structure that defines a patio, dining area, or hot tub zone with overhead framing. Done well, a pergola adds usable shade, anchors outdoor lighting, and creates a visual ceiling for the space underneath without enclosing it. Done poorly, it sags after one heavy snow, fades in a single Colorado summer, and looks like a kit assembled in an afternoon.
Castle Rock pergolas need to handle high UV, fast temperature swings, gusting wind off the foothills, and 4 to 6 wet snow loads per winter. We engineer ours to a structural standard that lasts 30 plus years, heavy-gauge galvanized steel framing, UV-stable finish coats, and posts anchored to engineered footings rather than surface-bolted to existing concrete.
- Custom design to match your home
- Galvanized steel or cedar framing
- Engineered for Colorado wind and snow
- UV-stable finishes that hold color
- Optional integrated lighting and fans
- Posts anchored to engineered footings

Material standard
Built for Castle Rock weather
Aluminum pergolas dent and discolor. Pressure-treated lumber pergolas warp, crack, and need refinishing every 3 to 5 years. Galvanized steel does not, and over a 25-year life cycle the steel pergola comes out cheaper than a wood pergola refinished 5 times. That is the single biggest reason our installs hold their look while the neighbors are calling for repaint quotes.

Cost and schedule for Castle Rock pergolas
What a Castle Rock pergola comes to depends on footprint, framing material, and how much gets integrated into it. Galvanized steel and cedar sit in different places, and lighting circuits, ceiling fans, and motorized louvers each move the number. We walk the space, take the measurements, and put the whole scope in a written quote so you see what drives it.
Schedule: 3 to 5 days for typical residential install with footings already cured. New footings add 5 to 7 days. We provide a firm install window before the first material order.
Castle Rock Weather
What a Castle Rock pergola actually has to survive
Castle Rock sits high on the Palmer Divide, and that ridge line is the reason the town gets some of the most violent hail cells on the Front Range. A June or July storm can drop marble to golf-ball hail on a pergola in ten minutes. A cedar top splits at the knots and a thin aluminum louver dents into a washboard. Heavy-gauge galvanized steel members take the same beating and shrug it off, which is the whole point of building for this specific hilltop rather than for a generic sunny backyard.
Wind is the second problem. The Divide funnels gusts off the foothills that regularly run 40 to 60 miles an hour, and a pergola is a big sail. That is why we set the posts on engineered footings poured below the local frost line rather than surface-bolting to an existing slab. Surface anchors work loose after a couple of freeze-thaw winters and then the whole structure starts to rack in the wind. A footing that is tied into rebar and poured deep does not move. When we quote a Castle Rock pergola we are pricing that footing work in from the start, not treating it as an upsell after the fact.
Snow load closes the loop. Castle Rock catches wetter, heavier snow than the plains cities to the east, and a covered pergola holds that weight until it melts or slides. We size the beams and rafter spacing for that load, and on louvered systems we set the pitch so snow sheds toward the open side of the patio instead of dumping over the doorway. Those are small decisions at the design table that keep a pergola standing straight for thirty years instead of sagging after the first bad winter.
Why galvanized steel →Design Fit
Fitting the pergola to your Castle Rock home
A pergola should look like it belongs to the house, not like it was rolled in on a trailer. Castle Rock has a wide mix of home styles, from the mountain-modern builds up around the Meadows to the more traditional stone-and-stucco homes in Founders Village and the Pinery edge. We match the post profile, beam depth, and finish color to what is already on the elevation so the structure reads as part of the architecture. On homes with a lot of stone we tend toward heavier square posts; on cleaner contemporary elevations we go slimmer.
Placement matters just as much as the structure itself. Castle Rock lots often have a view toward the Rock formation or the foothills, and a pergola set in the wrong spot blocks the exact thing you moved here for. During the walkthrough we look at where the afternoon sun lands, where the wind comes from, and what the sight lines are before we settle on a footprint. We would rather move a pergola three feet at the planning stage than leave you shading the wrong corner of the yard for the next three decades. Integrated string lights, a ceiling fan for the still summer evenings, or a radiant heater for the shoulder seasons all get roughed in during the build so the wiring is hidden instead of stapled to a beam later.
Common Questions
Answers before you call
How much does a pergola cost in Castle Rock?
A standalone Castle Rock pergola is priced by span, footing depth, and finish. A 12×16 galvanized steel pergola with footings and a basic finish is quoted the same way, itemized before anything is ordered.
Galvanized steel vs cedar vs aluminum?
Galvanized steel for longevity (30+ years, no refinishing). Cedar for warm aesthetic if you accept a 3 to 5 year refinish cycle. Aluminum is the cheapest but dents and discolors fastest.
How long does the install take?
3 to 5 working days with footings cured. New footings add 5 to 7 days. Permit lead time in Douglas County: 7 to 14 business days.
Do I need a permit?
Yes, Douglas County requires permits for any structure over 120 sq ft or attached to the home. We pull the permit and handle inspection scheduling as part of the install package.
Can you add lighting and fans later?
Yes if we rough in circuits during install. Retrofitting power into a finished pergola is doable but doubles the lighting cost. Spec it at design.
Will a pergola hold up to Castle Rock hail?
Our heavy-gauge galvanized steel framing takes hail without denting. The Palmer Divide is one of the worst hail zones on the Front Range, which is exactly why we build in steel rather than thin aluminum. Louvered covers are the one part that can show hail marks over time; open lattice and steel framing shrug it off.
How do you anchor the pergola so wind does not move it?
We set the posts on engineered footings poured below the local frost line and tied into rebar. Castle Rock gusts off the foothills regularly hit 40 to 60 miles an hour, and a pergola is a large sail. Surface-bolting to an existing slab works loose after a couple of freeze-thaw winters, so we do not do it on a structure that has to stand for thirty years.
Can the pergola block my mountain view?
It can if it is placed wrong, which is why we walk the lot before quoting. Many Castle Rock lots have a sight line toward the Rock or the foothills, and we position the footprint to keep that view open while still shading the part of the patio you actually use in the afternoon.
Will snow damage a covered pergola?
Not when it is sized for the load. Castle Rock catches heavier, wetter snow than the plains to the east. We size the beams and rafter spacing for that weight and, on louvered systems, set the pitch so snow sheds toward the open side of the patio instead of piling over a doorway.
